Art Galleries in Nassau

In Nassau, the National Art Gallery of the Bahamas actually does stand out from the so many art galleries that are present in the city. It is located within the Villa Doyle on West Hill Street. This historic building dates back to the 1860s and has been preserved carefully ever since. It was the house of the Chief Justice before being converted into an art gallery.

The recently renovated National Art Gallery of the Bahamas includes countless paintings and is also home to an assortment of ceramics, photographs and textiles, the most of it date from the latter part of the 20th century onwards.

This quirky museum resides in a standalone building and showcases Bahamian art that includes pieces by award-winning contemporary artist Antonius Roberts. It also contains landscape paintings that were created by the prominent American artist Winslow Homer (1836 to 1910). In spite of having some of the art on display that may not match to everyone’s taste, it is an interesting eye-opener giving everyone something to be interested in. It corresponds to periods from pre – colonial times to the present.

The gallery will be opened from Tuesday to Saturday and the timings are 10:00 to 16:00

Doongalik Studios

Doongalik Studios resides at Marina Village at Atlantis, Paradise Island, Bahamas, BS. Their contact number is +1 242 363 1313.This is a very famous gallery in Marina Village. It is a shop-cum-gallery and the only one of its type in this part of Paradise Island. The owner, Jackson Burnside, was the architect of the Marina Village complex.

This group shows off Bahamian culture to a tee. The Doongalik Studios includes plenty of contemporary art works that contain oil paintings by John Cox and Jessica Colebrooke. They are kept for sale along with various reasonable modern sculptures.

This gallery is open all days from 10:00 to 22:00 and admission is free for everyone.

There are cheap flights available when tickets are booked early to visit Nassau.
