Uppingham, Rutland – An Artists’ Paradise

Town information- The mini, market town of Uppingham – Rutland with its estimated population of 3781 inhabitants, is located in East Midlands of England between Peterborough and Leicester in Sovereign State of United Kingdom. The area’s exact regional co-ordinates are 52. 5900N and 0. 7222 W.

Annual events- Rutland Open Studios tops the list of annual events in the area, showcasing a magnificent variety of works by visual arts in and around Rutland. More than 90 artists take part in exhibitions held over a three weekend period. Uppingham Fete, Flower and Produce show is another great town get-together. This non-charity event hosts fantastic art and craft exhibitions and workshops as well as photographic, flower arrangement, painting and gardening competitions in the shows’ main marquee. Late-night Christmas shopping, every December will get you into a super festive mood with town traders opening their door for the ultimate shopping experience.

Market- Friday is market day in town, a tradition dating back as far as the 13th century. Only the freshest products including meats, fish, pastries, pies and vegetables to mention but a few, will be available for visitors to pick and choose from. Come hungry and remember your wallet.

Famous location- Uppingham’s biggest claim to fame is its participation in the popular film Harry Potter, shot on location at Uppingham School. This independent school was established in1584 and is home to the largest school playing field in the whole of England.

Events- Uppingham Theatre, plays host to an incredible array of live performance on a daily basis including drama productions, comedy shows, musicals and classical as well as jazz concerts. You are sure to find something on show to fall within every member of the families taste. The theatre is located at Uppingham School, Rutland, LE15 9QE.

Art- Artdejardin in the village of Wing, holds yearly exhibitions showcasing the works of 21 local contemporary artists, ranging from sculpture to glass, metal, ceramic, oak and stone furniture.
